Digital Archive Service

Many schools, colleges, churches and private individuals over the years have taken enormous trouble to document their musical lives by making sound recordings. They may be sounds of the annual carol service, the end of year production or a particularly special concert. Many of them are private recordings made in peoples homes - such recordings are irreplaceable, capturing unique moments in history.

A large number of these still remain stored on media that are so easily damaged - perhaps on reel to reel tape, 78 rpm disks, and vinyl long playing records which become dusty and scratched. Even analogue audio cassettes which can wear out or become stretched over time can be effectively transcribed to digital.

Whilst we so often take good care to look after our libraries of books and photographs, far less care is taken over our audio recordings.

Shaw Sounds are pleased to offer this service whereby these archive recordings can be rescued to high quality digital formats up to 24 & 32 bit.

Additionally, with the use of the 'Cedar Audio System' during transcription, we can eliminate some of the annoying surface noise and interuptions which can plague such recordings, bringing you closer to the actual sound.

Today's modern software and the latest restoration techniques mean that the very best of results are achievable for nostalgic recordings.

Shaw Sounds have over 40 years of experience in this field and in recent years have been approached by a number of people with precious recordings of school concerts, loved ones voices, family recordings and childhood days all captured on tape but alas either the tapes are in poor condition or the necessary playback equipment is no longer available. Fortunately we have the machines for playing back these important recordings but also the necessary hard and software for improving the sound quality.

These days there is an ever increasing popularity of portable digital devices such as i-pods & i-pads etc.

We can now provide a range of .wav and low loss files using Dropbox or Filemail for your convenience.

This additional service can be offered promptly and efficiently to suit your needs.
